Bates
Numbering
Whenever lawyers officially stand before the court of law
and present newfound evidences, either to defend or
prosecute the accused, they simply don't mark these legal
materials as "Exhibit A" or "Exhibit B." Not all may be
aware of it, but they use an automated and equally secure
method known as Bates numbering.
Bates numbering specializes in marking images, files, or
documents with their corresponding numbers, dates, and
times. Of course, these components are all organized using a
specialized sequence treatment. Although the method of Bates
numbering seems simple and easy, there are actually two
different ways to implement this: Manual Bates Stamping or
Automatic Electronic Bates Sampling. The Manual Bates
Sampling incorporates what they call a “self-inking stamp”
to indicate the sequence or assigned number on the document.
Automatic Electronic Bates Stamping, on the other hand, is
more advanced and efficient compared to the manual stamping
method; the automatic way does not entail the user to press
down anything because the software will simply do
everything. The automated option superimposes the number or
details on the file or document after scanning.
However, the Bates numbering technique is not solely used by
the legal system. Other industries have also found the Bates
numbering to be useful and practical in their operations.
Even businesses today have taken advantage of this
innovation. Different companies, large or small-scale
enterprises, secure their product lines and documents
through this systematic approach. Encrypted company names,
logos, dates, and other important corporate details are
being subjected to this process to ensure identification and
even copyright privileges of some authorized business
ventures - proving that the Bates numbering truly is an
indispensable tool for organization and identification.
